Muscat and Oman initially used stamps from various postal authorities before establishing its own postal system. The first stamps used in the region were Indian stamps, which were in circulation from 1 May 1864 until 19 December 1947. Following the partition of India, Pakistani stamps were used from 20 December 1947 until 31 March 1948. Afterward, British Postal Agency stamps were used from 1 April 1948 until 29 April 1966, marking a transitional period before Oman introduced its own postal issues.
