The High Court of Orissa was established on 26th July 1948 at Cuttack, beginning with four judges including Chief Justice B.K. Ray. Justice Jagannadha Das succeeded him, followed by Justice Lingaraj Panigrahi and Justice R.L. Narsimham. Originally housed in a brick-red, two-storied building from 1913, a modern eight-storied structure was completed in 2012. The new building features 25 courtrooms, a Judges’ lounge, and advanced facilities. To mark its 75th anniversary, a commemorative postage stamp has been issued.

Sardar Antaji Mankeshwar Gandhe 1v Stamp

Sardar Antaji Mankeshwar Gandhe, commander of the Maratha Empire’s Delhi-based army, was born in 1695 in Supa, Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra. From a farmer family, he moved to Kanauj for education due to famine, learning weaponry from Pt. Ramchandra Bhatt and Sufi music from Haiti Baba. Antaji established Kamargaon near Ahmednagar and built Garhi fort. Renowned for his brilliant battles from 1729 to 1757, he opposed Sati Pratha in 1754. Honored with the Saptahazari Mansab, he was killed on January 18, 1761. India Post commemorated his 261st death anniversary with a postage stamp, honoring his contributions against foreign invaders.

Rao Birender Singh 1v Stamp

Late Rao Birender Singh, a descendant of Shaheed-e-Azam Rao Tula Ram, was born on 20th February 1921 in Rewari, Haryana. Educated at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, he served as a Captain in the Indian Army. Elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 1954, he later became Chief Minister of Haryana in 1967. He also served as Union Agriculture and Food Minister in Rajiv Gandhi’s cabinet. Rao Birender Singh died on 30th September 2009 at the age of 88. India Post honoured him with this stamp.

225 Glorious Years 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment 1v Stamp

Raised on 6 September 1797 for the Bombay Presidency, the Battalion initially served as the 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment Native Infantry of the Travancore Regiment. Renamed a Light Infantry Regiment after its valor in the Abyssinian Campaign (1867-68), it fought bravely in World Wars I and II, earning acclaim for actions at Shaiba, Kut-El-Amara, Ctesiphon, and Keren. In 1946, it became the 3rd Parachute Battalion, the Maharatta Light Infantry. It distinguished itself in Jammu & Kashmir and counter-terrorism operations.
