Yakshagana 1v Stamp

Yakshagana, a traditional performing art from Karnataka, has evolved over six centuries from its folk origins into a sophisticated theatre form blending dance, drama, and music. Combining Aharya, Angika, Vachika, and Sathvika Abhinaya, Yakshagana features stylized music, costumes, and dialogues. It presents epic tales from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas in a full-night performance, reflecting both classical discipline and folk liberty. Known also as Ata, Dashavatara Ata, and Bayalata, Yakshagana varies regionally with styles like Thenku Thittu and Badaga Thittu. The term “Yakshagana” merges “Yaksha” (demigods or worship) and “Gana” (song), indicating its ritualistic and entertainment value. Despite its evolution, Yakshagana remains a vital part of Karnataka’s cultural heritage, now honored by a commemorative postage stamp issued by the Department of Posts.

Centenary Year All India Railwaymen’s Federation 1v Stamp

Amid the global Trade Union Movement, small unions emerged in the Indian Railways during British rule due to racial pay and service disparities. Indian railway workers earned less than European and Anglo-Indian workers for the same work. To tackle these issues, national leaders established the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) on April 24, 1924. AIRF was instrumental in advocating for fair pay and better conditions, influencing the First Pay Commission in 1946. Celebrating its centenary in 2024, AIRF continues to champion workers’ rights and improved wages.
